WHY VOTE GREEN

The Green Party is a real political alternative and we’re here to get elected. There are over one hundred Green councillors in places like Manchester, Brighton, Oxford, London, Liverpool, Lancaster and Norwich. We want Trafford to join this growing list.

Everyone’s talking about climate change and the bigger parties have finally woken up to the scale of the problem, but the green party is the only one offering real, practical solutions. We believe that there is One world and One chance – and our agenda offers that chance.

It is crucial therefore that local councils and parliament wake up to the fact that people are ready for a change of priorities. A vote for the Green Party will never be lost, for it will ensure that those in power cannot ignore this wake-up call and the stronger the vote the better.

Even one Green councillor can make a real difference in keeping the Green message visible throughout the year. On the London Assembly elected Greens helped bring about the London Climate Change Action Plan. See www.london.greenparty.org.uk/achievements08.

Note that the Mayor gave credit to the influence of the Assembly’s Green members for ensuring that the Green Agenda was never forgotten – www.greenparty.org.uk/news/2890

The Green Party works to prioritise the needs of local communities. It has been at the forefront of support for the Campaign for the Sustainable Communities Act. The Green Party has over 100 local councillors across the country.

Read about their many achievements at local level www.greenparty.org.uk/contactsregional. In Trafford we want to see a change of priorities at a local level and we must have a councillor and a new voice in the council. We are pleased that the council have provided some limited funding to Action for Sustainable Living, as we have already started to work with them. We will be glad to provide some support to any efforts in your local community alongside them. However action must be taken more urgently and so we have sent a Climate Change Challenge (link) to all political leaders and have received a response from the leader of the council, which credits the inclusion of a local food strategy in their Sustainability Strategy, to us. However much more needs to be done more quickly! We urgently need a voice in the council.
