LIZ O’NEILL SAYS "I had never been a member of a political party before joining the Green Party last year and now I'm standing for the Council. That change says a lot about what I found with the Greens and it's not all about the environment. Pensions, peace, health and human rights are just a few of the areas where Green Party policies offer real answers and real progress."

MARIAN SUDBURY SAYS
For this election I am largely a two issue candidate:
• cycle paths to help us improve our air quality
• plastic recycling to reduce the amount of wheely-bin rubbish.
Of course there are lots of things we need to do in Trafford for education, health etc and I will support policies which strengthen the NHS and improve our kids’ education.
As the Green candidate, though, my priorities are to get some attention focused on improving the environment in which we live. |

Feeling increasingly disillusioned by mainstream politics and the circus it has become, the Green Party provides an important and viable alternative by introducing policies which reflect an emerging interest and trend towards sustainable living - more

BRIDGET GREEN SAYS
'I became political after visiting the Green Party website five years ago. The Green Party was the only party to put climate change at the heart of its policy and, whilst the other parties are now waking up to the seriousness of climate change, the Green Party still remains the only one I trust on this issue.
I am standing in Bowdon to enable others to vote Green and with that voice push a Green agenda for Trafford.' |

LES GRADWELL SAYS ‘I am back from political obscurity: Discovering to my horror that I could not bring myself to vote at the last general election, I looked for a new ethos and found one here. I am home. My vision is to put people, communities and the environment at the cutting edge of policies. Working as a Building Surveyor I witness appalling waste. I also witness the real needs of people, where resources must be focused urgently.’

SARAH BAILEY SAYS I am passionate about seeing social justice realised in our country and particularly in Old Trafford, where I am currently living. I was drawn to the greens because people, and wanting the best for all people, is so clearly at the heart of their policies; from the economy, education, health, through to obviously the environment, the greens understand the great importance of protecting the wellbeing of our present and future societies - more

MARGARET WESTBROOK SAYS “ Having been politically active locally – both within and outside mainstream politics, I have now found my real home. The Green Party has the only workable philosophy for and practical solutions to the problems of our world in 21st century and beyond. It quite rightly questions our understanding of economic growth and challenges us all to question; to challenge our assumptions and to change our ways ….

ANNE POWER A green activist for more than 25 years SAYS "Owning an old wreck of a car in the 1950s opened up my life, but the current cult of the car is another thing altogether. It's a kind of madness destroying our own habitat. I've been dismayed by waste and extravagance throughout my life and that's one of the things that led me to the then Ecology Party back in 1981." |

SARAH KING SAYS
As a mum of four using washable nappies and committed to recycling the Green Party was a natural choice. The current petition for better roadside recycling is a particular issue for me as I find it hard to visit recycling centres. I believe that if we all get together and do our bit we can make a difference both to our world and our local environment. |

JANE SMITH SAYS "I believe it's incumbent upon us to look after our environment, and 'environment' covers so many different things - all of which ultimately affect our quality of life. For me, The Green Party is the only party in the UK genuinely committed to making a better, cleaner and ultimately happier environment for all of us." |

SAM LITTLE SAYS "The policies of the Green Party are based on a desire to better connect people to both their natural surroundings and their community, making for a happier, healthier society. By showing what can be achieved at a local level, we can develop a political climate where global environmental issues can be tackled without fear.
I joined the Greens to be part of a movement which will become increasingly influential in the coming years, and I am standing in Hale Central to give you the chance to express this sentiment as well. A Green vote is a vote for our future." |

BERNARD KELLY SAYS
“Green politics have risen to the fore globally maybe it’s time they did the same on a local level. Councils appear to operate on partisan, political point scoring lines with the main parties constantly attacking each other. We want, need and deserve the best councils can offer without them looking over their shoulders to see if they are toeing the party line, whatever colour that party may be! Because this is our city, it’s where we live, work and school our children and the Green Party recognises that". |

ZOE POWER SAYS "Environmental issues are rightly high on the agenda for the Greens, but what is really great about the Green Party is that as Greens do not feel duty bound to object to any one other political party’s policies, they can be honest and forthright and put the good of the community above petty party politics. With regards to the environment everyone can do their bit. I’m not perfect. I’m just a normal, busy working mum trying to do her best but where the real changes can be made are through local and national government.”

Economic theories spousing the vitues of unlimited economic growth look good on paper but are less suitable for planets that have very real ecological limits. Whilst the mainstream political parties try to 'green-wash' (big) business as usual, the Green party is the only force that offers a truly alternative vision for our future and the futures of generations to come.

HELEN JOCYS SAYS "I want to see the following : Green bins for the whole of the borough, not for what would appear to be randomly selected areas. Far greater plastic recycling facilities. Some people have no transport, consequently have no alternative but to use their wheelie bins for disposal. More one way systems in the area to enable traffic to proceed more smoothly. Cycle lanes properly segregated by a kerb to dissuade drivers from illegal parking, thereby putting the cyclists in danger. All bicycles compulsorily fitted with a warning bell.
