TRAFFORD
Trafford Green Party was formed in January 2007 when it became a party independent in its own right from Manchester Green Party.
Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council was formed in 1974. It is made up of a variety of old townships – Stretford, Urmston, Partington, Sale and Altrincham. It encompasses the more inner city areas of Old Trafford and Stretford together with suburban Sale, Altrincham and Urmston and the more rural fringe of Hale, Bowdon and Carrington.
Trafford organises community feedback and consultation through its 9 Neighbourhood Forums. These forums generally meet five times per year and residents are welcome to attend these to raise issues of concern and Green Party members and supporters are encouraged to use these forums to raise issues of sustainability.
Trafford does have a small sustainability team and we are pleased to see the website www.traffordismyplanet.com . We hope that sustainability will be an ongoing theme and we will be campaigning for Trafford to become a CARBON NEUTRAL council.
There are 21 wards in the borough and presently the council is Conservative controlled. There are 4 Liberal Democrats, 20 Labour members and 39 Conservative members see www.trafford.gov.uk. In May 2007 we will be standing candidates in all wards in the borough. Details – pictures and quotes from individual candidates will be available once nominations are confirmed.
Trafford Green Party is now beginning to work in several specific areas in the Borough. See members area for more details or, if you are not yet a member, but would like to help contact Bridget mail@bridget.greenisp.org
