The Green Party on expenses
Filed: 25.05.2009

Trafford Green Party is both appalled and saddened by what has happened in the last two weeks. Not only have we seen politicians acting illegally, unscrupulously and without shame but we have seen a complete loss of confidence in our democratic institutions. The Green Party wishes to see those who have acted illegally brought to justice, a complete reform of the expenses system, a new voting system of proportional representation as well as the first Green MP's in parliament. (see video below)

We are aware of political agendas behind the way in which this scandal is being exposed. Note that the Daily Telegraph favours the Conservatives and always has done!

We are also aware that the talk on the street is that the "fringe" parties will benefit. We do not regard ourselves as a "fringe" party. We have almost 120 green councillors across the country; we are the second largest party on Norwich council and could potentially take control next time; we have 2 members on the London Assembly (Jenny Jones and Darren Johnson) as well as our 2 MEP's in the South East, Caroline Lucas and Jean Lambert. We also have a very detailed set of policies in our Manifesto for a Sustainable Society. We are ready for parliament!

Some of the "fringe" parties are, however, a real danger. The BNP are a racist party and we do not wish to associate with them or give them air time in any way. UKIP are completely discredited with one of their MEP's in jail for benefit fraud, one MEP under investigation and their leader exposed for having claimed £2 MILLION in expenses - which he claims to have used for promotion of UKIP (see Observer 24th May). Other parties are very new and can offer little and do not attempt to tackle Climate Change.

THE ONLY WAY TO A NEW WAY IS TO VOTE GREEN ON JUNE 4TH.
