In the short time that we have existed as Trafford Green Party, we have picked up a number of issues raised by the local people of Stretford. Recently we raised the issue of two large residential developments proposed for the canalside here. We felt that these did nothing for local residents and were pleased that this seemed to be the opinion of nearly all that we talked to. One application has been withdrawn and we have objected to the other. See our objection here.
We now feel that the time is right to encourage the Council to prepare a strategy for Stretford Town Centre to help create a place that we can be proud of and that will attract people to live, work and relax. We would like to hear YOUR OPINIONS and get YOUR IDEAS for how YOU would like your Town Centre to look and feel in the future. Below, we have identified a few issues that seem to be important to local residents. We would like to know what you think about these and what other issues you feel may have been missed out.
ISSUES
-
A six-lane main road through the middle of the Town Centre – a barrier ?
-
Dirty, unsafe underpasses ?
-
Redevelopment of canalside sites with uses benefiting the local community and emphasising the recreational potential of the canal itself ?
-
Better links between the Shopping Mall, Civic Theatre, Essoldo, the Metrolink Station, the Canal, and Longford/Victoria Parks to create a sense of place ?
-
More facilities for young people ?
