Trafford Planning Department has recently received TWO planning applications for residential development along the canalside – one either side of Edge Lane. One is for 107 apartments, together with a retail outlet, parking and moorings. The other, by Peel Holdings, is to redevelop the Boatyard with 44 apartments and parking more
 
GREENS DELIVER! VOTE GREEN!

One of the world’s leading climate change scientists (James Hansen, Head of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York) warns today that the EU and its international partners must urgently rethink targets for cutting carbon dioxide in the atmosphere because of fears they have GROSSLY underestimated the scale of the problem - Guardian 7th APRIL 2008.

We need radical change NOW. Trafford Green Party is standing candidates in all wards in Trafford again this year. We have been in existence for just one year and we have already:

  • Pressed the council for much improved recycling facilities with a petition signed by more than 2000 people
  • Set a Climate Change Challenge to all local political parties and ensured that Trafford Council will develop a local food strategy for the future
  • Begun to work with local people on improving traffic calming in Longford’s neighbourhoods

Green Councillors across the country are bringing about positive change.

In Kirklees one Green councillor has ensured 5% of the UK’s solar panels have been installed and now, with colleagues, has initiated a successful scheme to provide free insulation to over 40,000 homes – so reducing fuel bills for residents.

Climate Change Challenge to Leaders

Trafford Green Party has written to the leaders of other political parties to ask Trafford Council to support their low carbon economy 10-point Climate Change Challenge.

Trafford Council’s adoption of a Sustainability Strategy is a good start BUT a lot more could be achieved. We are, quite rightly, being encouraged as individuals to reduce our carbon footprint but the Council should lead by example and make the public sector carbon neutral.
